I believe many people have heard of this statement, for example, X2 safety capacitor can be replaced by CBB capacitor, Y safety capacitor can be replaced by high voltage ceramic capacitor, so that the cost can be reduced, is this statement scientific? Can ordinary capacitor replace the safety capacitor?
1、Ordinary capacitors cannot guarantee the safety of the circuit.
The discharge of the safety-regulated capacitor is different from the ordinary capacitor. The ordinary capacitor will keep the charge for a long time after the external power is disconnected, and if you touch it with your hand, you will be electrocuted, but the safety-regulated capacitor does not have this problem. From the point of view of protecting the safety of all of us, ordinary capacitors can’t replace the safety-regulated capacitors.
2. The voltage withstand of the safety standard capacitor is higher.
For example, X capacitors are generally marked with safety certification mark and AC275V withstand voltage, and their real DC withstand voltage is at least 2500V (X2) or more. Therefore, don’t use ordinary capacitors with nominal withstand voltage of AC250V or DC400V as a substitute, because the withstand voltage of ordinary capacitors is not on the same level as the safety capacitors. The ripple current index of common capacitor is very low, and the dynamic internal resistance is high. If you replace X capacitor with ordinary capacitor, it is difficult to meet the requirement of ripple current index in addition to the capacitance withstand voltage.
The appearance of Y capacitor is mostly orange or blue, and its real DC withstand voltage is up to 5000V (Y2) or more, and the withstand voltage of ordinary ceramic capacitor is also unable to meet this requirement.
3、No safety capacitor power supply can not be certified.
In the AC power supply input, generally need to add three safety capacitors to suppress EMI conducted interference. They are used in the power supply filter, respectively, common mode, differential mode interference to play a filtering role. If you do not use safety capacitors, the product will have EMC problems, the power supply will not be certified.
