Afhankelijk van het type plastic film worden ze onderverdeeld in: condensatoren op basis van polyethyleen (ook bekend als Mylar condensatoren), polypropyleen condensatoren (ook bekend als PP condensatoren), polystyreen condensatoren (ook bekend als PS condensatoren) en polycarbonaat condensatoren.
