1、 Because the capacity of electrolytic capacitor is much larger than the general fixed capacitor, JEC safety capacitor should be measured by choosing the appropriate range for different capacities. According to the experience, in general, the capacitance between 1~47μF can be measured by R×1k, and the capacitance larger than 47μF can be measured by R×100.
2、Connect the red meter pen to the negative pole and the black meter pen to the positive pole, at the moment of contact, the multimeter pointer will be deflected to the right (for the same resistor, the larger the capacity, the larger the swing), then gradually turn to the left until it stops at a certain position. The resistance value at this point is the forward leakage resistance of electrolytic capacitor, which is slightly larger than the reverse leakage resistance. Actual experience shows that the leakage resistance of electrolytic capacitor should be above several hundred kΩ, otherwise, it will not work properly. In the test, if there is no charging in forward and reverse direction, that is, the meter needle does not move, it means the capacity disappears or the internal circuit is broken; if the measured resistance value is very small or zero, it means the capacitor has a big leakage or has been damaged by breakdown and cannot be used again.
3、 For the electrolytic capacitors with unknown positive and negative signs, the above method of measuring leakage resistance can be used to identify them. That is, measure the leakage resistance arbitrarily first, remember its size, and then exchange the meter pen to measure a resistance value again. The one with larger resistance in the two measurements is the positive connection, that is, the black pen is connected to the positive pole and the red pen is connected to the negative pole.
