Many people have been unaware of what organic film capacitors are, organic film is often referred to as plastic film, with organic film as the medium manufacturing capacitors also called organic film capacitors, the capacitors are widely used, and outstanding performance.
As many as a dozen organic films are used in the manufacture of capacitors, with polystyrene, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyester (polyester), polypropylene, polycarbonate organic film capacitors are the most mature.
Organic film is divided into two categories: polar organic film and non-polar organic film. Capacitors made of polar organic film have the advantages of large capacitance, high temperature resistance and high voltage strength. Capacitors made of non-polar organic film have the advantages of small loss angle tangent tgd, high insulation resistance, small dielectric absorption coefficient, negative temperature coefficient, etc.
There are two structures for the manufacture of organic film capacitors. One structure is to use two layers of 7mm thick aluminum foil as the pole plate, and then two layers of organic film as the dielectric, using the winding process to make a four-layer structure of the capacitor, this structure of the capacitor organic film and aluminum foil can be separated, known as foil capacitors. Another structure is to organic film as a medium, directly in its single side of a layer of 20nm thick metal film as a pole plate. There are various methods to make metal film: ① the metal liquid can be obtained by physical or chemical methods, and then evenly sprayed on the organic film to become the metal film pole plate; ② the gold plating process can be used to evenly plating a layer of metal film on one side of the organic film, and the same can be made pole plate; ③ the evaporation process can be used to vaporize the metal to form the pole plate on one side of the organic film. The organic film capacitor with two layers can be produced by winding two such plates side by side. Since the organic film cannot be separated from the metal film and is metallized, it is called metallized organic film capacitor.

The wound capacitors can be further processed into cylindrical, flat, laminated block and sheet shapes, followed by impregnation and encapsulation. Organic film capacitors are available in the form of hermetically sealed metal case, semi-hermetically sealed with epoxy resin, and hermetically sealed with body shrinkage.
Since the thickness of the pole plate layer of foil capacitor is 71μm, the pole plate transmits current more rapidly than the metallized capacitor, and because of the four-layer stacked roll structure, the loss angle tangent is small and the insulation resistance is high. Metallized capacitors are relatively small in size, high in specific capacitance and light in weight due to the thin pole plate. Its most outstanding feature is its “self-healing” performance.
